Fertilizing, Lime Application & Weed Control
We are happy to fertilize your lawn just one time or you can join our fertilizing program and let us optimize the timing of your fertilizing for the climate of the Sunshine Coast. The timing and amount of fertilizer will be the two most important factors of the process. This mixed with aerating twice a year will be a healthy way to combat weeds and other lawn issues in a natural way.
We have found the best success on the Coast with first fertilizing in the early spring when the lawn is starving for nutrients. The second time to fertilize is before the drought of August and to fertilize with a slow releasing fertilizer. Fertilizing your lawn during the drought will only cause further browning and root stress. The most important fertilizer will be applied in the fall, and should be combined with aerating your lawn for even better results. We highly recommend aerating with both the spring and fall fertilizer. Fall fertilizer promotes deep happy roots for the next spring.
Promoting your lawn to have deep, healthy roots is a great and natural way to get rid of the weeds while establishing a beautiful lawn at the same time
If your lawn is thick and lush it almost always will have healthy, deep roots. Rather than spraying chemicals on your lawn, what we do is get you on an aerating and proper fertilizing program that will strengthen your grass from the bottom up. This in turn will naturally choke out much of your weeds and at the same time give you a much healthier lawn.
On the Sunshine Coast it is also good to know that keeping the correct height of your lawn will be important in keeping it healthy. For example, if your grass is not cut too short, the soil will not be exposed to the sun and it will have less moss and less weeds. Also, being sure you are only cutting the top one third of your grass blades will benefit your grass roots. In general, the shorter you cut your lawn the shorter your lawn roots will be, making it more prone to invasion by weeds.
When it comes to weed control, we are sure to never spray anything toxic on your lawn
Our philosophy with weed control is clear and simple. We like to do things in a healthy, natural way that is environmentally friendly. Our weed control methods are always natural and we will never spray anything toxic on your lawn. We believe the use of harmful chemicals is unnecessary and unsafe.
Lime Application
Lime application is for lawns that have an acidic PH level, this is usually the case on the Sunshine Coast, especially if there are cedar trees near the lawn. Lime corrects the soil acidity and also adds calcium and magnesium to your soil. These are nutrients that that help preserve a lawns colour and vigour and protect it from heat and drought stress. The best time to apply lime is during the early spring and in the autumn.
